Facts You Should Know
One in five veterans returning from the Global War on Terror suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to VA data more than 500,000 veterans have Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), and over half of the 2 million plus veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan will need some form of continued medical treatment!
On average we lose 22 veterans a day to suicide. We are losing the battle against depression. Our veterans need help dealing with the horrors of war they bring home with them. Depression is often a side symptom of physically injured warriors or those with PTSD and TBI.
Why Golf Therapy?
Warrior Golf Camps of America, provides veterans and their families with a free four day camp designed to use recreational activities like golf to address symptoms of PTSD and TBI by providing activities that help them relax while staying focused. This may be the first step in the healing process.
We realize that the veteran is not facing these challenges alone. The military family has one the highest divorce rates of any demographic in the country. This is partly due to the dramatic changes that may occur while the veteran and family are apart. One of the missions of Warrior Golf Camps is to help rebuild the families of our heroes. That’s why we include the family in our program. Our camps provides them a chance to use quality time together, fun activities and counseling to learn to better communicate and grow closer.
